- What it costs: $69.99 pre-purchase of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on the Epic Games Store.
- How long it takes: The items appear in your Fortnite locker shortly after purchase, usually within minutes.

What You Actually Get With This Promotion
The free reward is officially called the Golden Batarang Knucks, and it is a pickaxe cosmetic that looks like a pair of gold-plated, batarang-shaped knuckle dusters. It fits right into the Batman collaboration aesthetic, with a shiny gold finish and sharp wing details that make it stand out during gameplay.
Alongside the pickaxe, you also receive the Bricks and Batarangs Loading Screen. This loading screen features a LEGO-styled Batman scene that blends the blocky charm of LEGO with the darker Gotham City vibe. Both items appear in your Fortnite locker automatically once the promotion criteria are met.
Neither item costs V-Bucks. They are classified as a pre-purchase bonus, not an Item Shop purchase. That distinction matters because it means these cosmetics may never be available through normal Fortnite store rotations, at least not anytime soon.
How to Get the LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight Pickaxe in Fortnite
Follow these steps to claim the free Golden Batarang Knucks pickaxe and the loading screen in Fortnite. The entire process takes about five minutes once you are ready to pre-purchase.
Step 1: Open the Epic Games Store
Launch the Epic Games Store on your PC or visit store.epicgames.com in your browser. Make sure you are logged into the same Epic Games account you use to play Fortnite. This is the single most important step in the entire process. If the accounts do not match, you will not receive the cosmetic items.
Step 2: Find LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
Search for “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” in the Epic Games Store search bar. The game should appear as an available pre-purchase. The listing will mention the Fortnite bonus items, including the Golden Batarang Knucks pickaxe and the Bricks and Batarangs Loading Screen, right on the store page.
Step 3: Complete the Pre-Purchase
Click the pre-purchase button and complete the transaction for $69.99. You can use any payment method accepted by the Epic Games Store, including credit cards, PayPal, or an existing Epic Wallet balance. Once the payment goes through, the bonus content is tied to your account immediately. You do not need to wait for the game to release.
Step 4: Launch Fortnite
Open Fortnite on any platform linked to that same Epic Games account. This works on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or mobile. The promotion is not limited to PC players even though the purchase must happen on the Epic Games Store. As long as your console or platform account is connected to the same Epic account, you will receive the items.
Step 5: Check Your Locker
Navigate to your Locker tab in the main Fortnite menu. Look under the Pickaxes section for the Golden Batarang Knucks and under Loading Screens for Bricks and Batarangs. In most cases, the items appear within a few minutes of purchase. If they do not show up immediately, restart Fortnite and check again.
Step 6: Equip and Play
Select the Golden Batarang Knucks as your active pickaxe and the Bricks and Batarangs as your loading screen if desired. Both items are now permanently tied to your account and will remain available even if you later refund the game, though Epic’s official terms may vary on this point.
Important Things to Know Before You Pre-Purchase
Before spending $69.99, there are a few details worth understanding clearly. Our team combed through forum discussions and official Epic documentation to find the answers players are asking about most.
Account Matching Is Non-Negotiable
The Epic Games Store purchase and your Fortnite account must be one and the same. If you buy the game while logged into Account A but play Fortnite on Account B, the Golden Batarang Knucks will be delivered to Account A. There is no transfer process, no gift option for this specific bonus, and Epic support will not move the items between accounts. Double-check your logged-in account before completing the purchase.
The Word “Free” Deserves an Asterisk
Yes, the pickaxe costs zero V-Bucks in Fortnite. But you are spending $69.99 on a game to unlock it. If you were already planning to buy LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight anyway, the cosmetic is genuinely a free bonus on top of your purchase. If you are buying the game solely for the pickaxe, that is $69.99 for a single cosmetic item, which is a steep price compared to most Item Shop pickaxes that typically run between 800 and 1,500 V-Bucks (roughly $8 to $15).
Refund Implications
If you pre-purchase the game and then request a refund through the Epic Games Store, the status of your bonus cosmetics is unclear. Epic has not published a specific policy addressing whether the Golden Batarang Knucks and loading screen get removed from your locker after a refund. Based on past similar promotions, the items typically remain, but there is no guarantee. Treat this as an at-your-own-risk scenario.
Item Shop Availability Is Unknown
Epic Games has not confirmed whether the Golden Batarang Knucks will ever be sold separately in the Fortnite Item Shop. It is possible the pickaxe could appear there months from now, possibly for less than the cost of the full game. It is also possible it remains exclusive to this pre-purchase promotion indefinitely. If you want the pickaxe guaranteed, the pre-purchase is currently the only confirmed path.
Promotion End Date Has Not Been Announced
As of October 2026, Epic has not shared an expiration date for this cross-promotion. It is tied to the pre-purchase window for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, so it will likely remain available until the game launches. After that, the bonus could disappear without warning.
Batman Keeps Coming Back to Fortnite
This is far from the first time Batman has crossed over into Fortnite. The Caped Crusader has been a recurring collaboration partner since 2019, when the Batman Caped Crusader Pack first hit the Item Shop. Since then, Fortnite players have seen multiple Batman skins, Gotham City as a named location on the map, and crossover events tied to major Batman game releases.
The LEGO Batman Fortnite collab is part of a broader trend of cross-promotions in 2026. Epic has been partnering with major game publishers to offer free cosmetics as pre-purchase bonuses. Previous examples include the Cronos The New Dawn skin promotion and various third-party tie-ins that rewarded Fortnite players for purchasing unrelated games on the Epic Games Store.
Within the current Chapter 7 Season 2, there are several other free cosmetic opportunities floating around, from Rivalry Ranks rewards to Star Wars Unleash the Force challenges. If you are a dedicated cosmetic collector, the Golden Batarang Knucks pickaxe adds another notch to your collection, and the LEGO aesthetic gives it a visual style that stands apart from other Batman-themed items already in the game.
FAQs
Can you get a free pickaxe in Fortnite?
Yes, Fortnite occasionally offers free pickaxes through promotions, events, and crossover tie-ins. The Golden Batarang Knucks is one example, available as a bonus when you pre-purchase LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on the Epic Games Store. Free pickaxes are also sometimes given out during special in-game events or as Twitch Drops, though these opportunities are limited and time-sensitive.
What is the price of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight?
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight costs $69.99 on the Epic Games Store as a pre-purchase. This price includes the base game plus the Fortnite bonus items (Golden Batarang Knucks pickaxe and Bricks and Batarangs Loading Screen) that unlock immediately after purchase.
How to unlock the pickaxe in Lego Fortnite?
To unlock the Golden Batarang Knucks pickaxe, pre-purchase LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on the Epic Games Store using the same account you play Fortnite with. Then launch Fortnite, go to your Locker, and the pickaxe will be available under the Pickaxes section. No additional steps or in-game challenges are required.
Will the Golden Batarang Knucks come to the Fortnite Item Shop?
Epic Games has not confirmed whether the Golden Batarang Knucks will ever be sold in the Fortnite Item Shop. It is currently exclusive to the LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight pre-purchase promotion. Similar crossover items have sometimes appeared in the Item Shop months after their initial promotion, but there is no guarantee this one will follow the same pattern.
What happens if I buy the game on a different account than my Fortnite account?
If you pre-purchase LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on a different Epic Games account than the one you use for Fortnite, the Golden Batarang Knucks will be delivered to the purchasing account, not your Fortnite account. There is no way to transfer the bonus items between accounts. Always verify you are logged into the correct Epic account before completing the purchase.
Wrapping Up
Getting the LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight pickaxe in Fortnite for free is straightforward once you understand the mechanics behind the promotion. Pre-purchase the game on the Epic Games Store for $69.99 using the right account, launch Fortnite, and the Golden Batarang Knucks along with the Bricks and Batarangs Loading Screen will be waiting in your locker. Just remember that account matching is critical, the Item Shop future is uncertain, and the word “free” comes with that $69.99 asterisk attached. If you were already eyeing the game, consider the pickaxe a solid bonus. If not, weigh whether a single cosmetic is worth the full game price.
